Master of Theological Studies

Program Description

Length and content

The Master of Theological Studies Program is a 36 credit hour program designed to move the student beyond an introductory study of the ten major disciplines of systematic theology and to challenge critical thinking about his own personal beliefs. Course content is focused heavily on theological studies as opposed to ministerial or biblical studies. Curriculum is structured to provide appropriate balance between academic challenge and practical value for the student and those to whom he ministers in a local church.

Options for Study

Students are required to take five (5) advanced courses in systematic theology (500 level or above) but may choose to do further study in theology. Students have the option of pursuing independent studies with the approval of the Dean. The independent studies can be approved for course credit within the program. After the course requirements are met, the Dean has the authority to approve an unlimited number of independent studies.

Degree Versatility

The Master of Ministry Degree is designed to allow students to continue their studies with several exciting options. One option is to take all the course work done in this program and apply it toward a Master of Divinity Degree. All 36 hours can be applied toward the MDiv (the MDiv is a 90 hour program). A second option is to use the degree as a basis for enrolling in the PhD in Biblical Studies program at Louisiana Baptist University.
